The Simple Things
Sometimes it's the simple things that bring you the most joy, waist deep in a river with only a small box of simply tied hackle and thread flies catching small eager trout on a spring afternoon. That's pretty simple and it sounds like joy to me! I've used these simple flies for many years now, they're easy and quick to dress and very effective. I fish these flies on and below the surface, when fishing for smaller trout that are competing for food I have found very precisely tied flies don't really bring any more success so I like to keep it simple. Trout like this one come really well to these simply dressed flies and are an absolute joy. As I approach another trout season during which I intend to keep my rod tip busy I'll be tying a few more of these flies, I'll post some pics when the time comes. Keep it simple!
